Community Outreach - 2018 Winter Clothing Drive
The DMS SGA, in conjunction with the DMS PTA are supporting the annual coat drive to provide students in our own school community (and their families) who are in need of winter coats, gloves, hats, scarves, etc.
We are asking students of each grade level to bring in clothing items to donate for this great cause. Donation boxes, by grade, have been placed in Time Square for students to deposit the clothing items. The grade that donates the most clothes, gloves, hats, scarves, etc…will earn extra recess on Halloween. The clothing drive starts now and will continue through October 30, 2018.

DMS PTA Reflections 2018-19
The National PTA Reflections program encourages students of all ages and abilities to explore and be involved in the arts in an educational way. Through the program, DMS PTA Reflections and PTAs across the country urge students in preschool through grade 12, to create and submit original works of art in the medium of their choice— dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography, and visual arts — reflecting on a specific theme. The theme for the 2018-19 Reflections is “HEROES AROUND ME”. Due date for all entries has been extended to November 15 , 2018. For more information visit: http://www.mdpta.org/bridge_reflections.html

Please send your nominations and questions to Sridevi.vedantham@gmail.com

Fall Social Update
Another successful event sponsored by the DMS PTA and attended by about 250 students and 35+ volunteers.  - DJ, music, dancing, pizza, snacks, fruits, veggies, flag football, obstacle course, spoon race, basketball, and putting green.  What more could a student want ??? Oh, right candy. Lots of candy for prizes.
Thank you to all the staff and volunteers who provided all the food or their valuable time on Friday to help at the event.   Thank you for selling tickets, heading up the games, monitoring the halls, selling concessions, setup/cleanup, and hanging outside in the cold to monitor the outside activities.   It’s because of fantastic people like you that we can organize fun events for our kids A special recognition to Patti Morse, the Chair of Fall Social, who put in countless hours of her time to make this amazing event happen.  Thank you Patti – this event would not have happened if you didn’t step up to chair this event. All, if you see Patti around – don’t forget to thank her.

To those who have already donated and sold chocolate bars, THANK YOU. If you haven’t had a chance to donate, you can donate two ways:

Here is Your Fall Box Tops Blitz Debrief!
Our fall Box Tops Blitz was a success. Here some key highlights:
* Almost 60 DMS students brought in Box Tops
* Donations ranged from just one Box Top to more than 100
* The mean average Box Top donation per student was 47
* In just the first 8 weeks of 2018-2019 school year, the DMS PTA was able to collect 2,664 Box Tops for a $264.40 payout from General Mills!
As you can see, our collective clipping of Box Tops really adds up. We are on track to clear our goal of generating at least $1,000 from this fundraising effort. Stay tuned for our 3-point plan on how we're going to get there in next week's PTAnewsletter.
