Dear Dunloggin Middle School Families:
It’s the time of year again where we nominate and elect board members for next year’s PTA. Nominating committee would like your input in recommending Board of Director members for the 2019-2020 school year. Some of the positions we need to fill: 
  • Vice President II - for Fundraising
  • Recording Secretary
  • Membership Chair (or Co-chairs)
  • Communications/ Webmaster
For a list of all open roles and responsibilities visit Dunlogginmspta Nominations. If you don’t want to join the board, consider taking on a leadership role for an event (Movie Night, Robotics, Fall Social, Sponsorships, etc.).
May 24, 2019 is deadline to submit nomination forms and statements. Letters of Interest and Nomination Forms must be mailed to and received at the address following address or emailed to Nominations@dunlogginmspta.org on or before May 24, 2019. Elections in June, 2019.

Barnes and Noble Book Fair fundraiser - Thank You!
We enjoyed wonderful performances by the DMS choir and band quartet on Saturday, April 6 at the Barnes and Noble Book Fair.  Thanks to all who performed and attended.  Also, thank you for purchasing books for the DMS Media Center.  If you were unable to attend the Book Fair, and want to donate a book to the Media Center, it’s not too late.  They are collecting paperback copies of the titles below.  Please drop off the books at the Media Center.

DMS Culture Night April 11, 2019 at 6:00 PM
DMS Culture Night is this Thursday! Celebrate all of the diverse cultures represented by the DMS community. Enjoy great food, games, performances, and a fashion show. Bring the whole family to represent your culture and learn about the culture of others.

Gently Used Book Drive
The PTA is collecting books to benefit a nearby Title I school. We are looking for gently used books for preschool through middle aged students. Books can be dropped off in the collection boxes at school from April 22 through May 17. If you would like books picked up from your house, please email debslater@verizon.net. The books will be given to local students who might not have many books at home, for summer reading.

Box Tops Collection Coming in May and June
Start gathering your Box Tops now - we will be collecting them in May and June.  Be sure to write your child’s name and grade on the envelope, or plastic bag to be eligible for prizes.  Drop  them off at the front office.

Maryland PTA Scholarship for High School Seniors
The Maryland PTA Scholarship Committee offers scholarships in the amount of $1000 each to a high school senior who plans to pursue a career in education in Maryland schools. Committee seeks your encouragement for qualified students to apply. There are no restrictions placed on the selection of the college or university.


Please ensure that all scholarship applicants fill out the application in its entirety and forward all required information, including requested signatures, to Maryland PTA, c/o Scholarship Committee, 5 Central Avenue, Glen Burnie, MD 21061 or electronically to info@mdpta.org by 4:30 p.m., Monday, April 15, 2019.

Watch “Angst” -   Youth Stress & Anxiety Documentary, Hear from Local Experts
Join the Horizon Foundation and Howard County Public School System for a FREE documentary screening and panel discussion around anxiety in youth. “Angst” is a 55-minute film featuring candid interviews with children and young adults who struggle, or have struggled, with anxiety – including Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps.
The film explores the causes, symptoms and effects of anxiety and stress on youth and encourages youth and their families to seek help. Middle and high school students are encouraged to attend with a parent or guardian. Each film screening will be followed by a discussion and Q&A with local experts.
